The idea of creating a foundation to help Colombian indigenous children and adolescents with unsatisfied basic needs, who for years have been forgotten by their local leaders and National Government, and sometimes even rejected by their own countrymen, was born in the minds of two friends, Iliana Curiel Arismendy and Eleonora Arango Castrillón. It was at the end of the year in 2014 while sitting in a red hammock under the magic and charm that only Jepirra (Cabo de la Vela, La Guajira, Colombia) possesses that they both decided to create a foundation combining their different knowledge and professional experiences to benefit the indigenous children in Colombia.
Their shared dream became a reality with the formation of the foundation Los Hijos del Sol -Süchonni Ka’i which serves indigenous Colombian communities. Subsequently, Lilia Sofia Sanchez Aguilar joined this project because she also saw the need to help children in vulnerable situations.
